ALASKA CAPITAL SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE. Maps; 1975. .5 cu. ft. List.

The people of Alaska approved the relocation of the state capital from Juneau to Southcentral Alaska in an initiative on August 27, 1974. The governor then appointed a nine-member Capital Site Selection Committee to conduct a twelve-month study to analyze and identify potential capital relocation sites, which were to be free from natural, climate, or building limitations and from legal and other restraints. Upon completion of their work, the committee suggested three alternative sites: Willow, Larson Lake, and Mount Yenlo. In the election of November 2, 1976 a majority of voters approved the Willow site.

This collection consists of twenty-three maps prepared for the Capital Site Selection Committee in 1975. There are maps of eleven sites looked at by the committee including Willow, Larson Lake, and Mount Yenlo. The maps are arranged in alphabetical order.

Acquired from the Alaska Resources Library in 1984.
