ALASKA CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, INC. Records; 1971-1992. 100 cu. ft. Inventory.
The Alaska Center for the Environment was established in 1971 as a conservation lobbying organization. It is administered by a board of directors, an executive director, and other officers. The Center is involved in monitoring environmental and conservation issues in Alaska including air pollution, toxic waste, mining, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, oil and gas development, and land use planning. The Center also operates a library and a recycling center, and publishes a newsletter entitled "The Center News."
The collection consists of records relating to the operation, management, and activities of the Alaska Center for the Environment. The collection includes administrative records containing minutes, correspondence, notes, financial reports, staff reports, membership surveys, publicity files, press releases, lobbying records, planning records, editor's files, and other types of records; and issue, project and subject files containing correspondence, published and unpublished reports and studies, notes, congressional bills and testimony, proposals, legal documents,.legislation, journal articles, newsletters, newspapers clippings, and other types of records. The collection is divided into two parts: administrative records and issue, project and subject files. The administrative records are divided into six series: board of directors files, correspondence files, daily and weekly logs, membership files, office files, and newsletter preparation files, general subject files (1), general subject files (2), D-2 subject files, land use planning subject files, and clippings and publications.
A deposit agreement was arranged between the archives and the organization in 1981. Records have been added in 1982, 1986, and 1991. Quotation from incoming correspondence may require the permission of the writer.
