Edna and Martha Preuss took a cruise of Southeast Alaska aboard the Alaska Steamship Company's S.S. Yukon from Seattle in July to August 1940. Their tour, beginning in Philadelphia on the Northern Pacific Railway, was sponsored by the Christian Fellowship. Their cruise to Alaska included stops in Wrangell, Sitka and Skagway, as well as a ride on the White Pass and Yukon Railway.
The collection consists of the tourist photograph album of Edna and Martha Preuss. The collection contains: a xerographic copy of the original 22-page album; 48 black and white prints from the album; a Western Union bon voyage telegram dated July 30; two Northern Pacific Railway Company tour membership cards for Miss Edna and Miss Martha Preuss for the Christian Fellowship Tour, stamped on July 10 at the railway office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a business card for the Alaska Premier Fur Farms in Juneau, Alaska; and the original illustrated wooden cover of the photograph album. Subjects of the photographs include: Edna and Martha Preuss and fellow passengers aboard the S.S. Yukon; people, streets, docks and scenery in Wrangell, Sitka and Skagway; the Superior Packing Company cannery at Tenakee Inlet; and scenes along the White Pass and Yukon Railway.
The collection was acquired by the archives in 2005.
