Organizational history:
KTOO (FM) radio is a public radio station located in Juneau, Alaska. It began broadcasting in January 1974 and is operated by Capital Community Broadcasting, Incorporated. In 1990, following the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound (1989), the station acted as the coordinator on a project to assemble audio tape recordings of the radio news coverage of the spill, as broadcast onvarious Alaskan and out-of-state public radio stations.

Collection description:
This collection consists of 164 audiocassette recordings of news coverage of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill and related events and subjects. Included is coverage by KSKA Anchorage, KCHU Valdez, KTOO Juneau, the Alaska Public Radio Network, and National Public Radio. Events and subjects covered include the spill, cleanup efforts, the environmental and economic impact of the spill, National Transportation Safety Board Hearings, and other events and subjects.

Arrangement: The cassettes are arranged by tape number as assigned by the station.
