Biographical note:
Peter Dinkelspiel drove to Alaska from Southern California with friends in June through August of 1949. He documented his trip up the Alaska Highway and into interior Alaska with photographs.

Collection description:
The collection consists of a photo album, related papers, and publications from Peter Dinkelspiel's trip up the Alaska Highway in the summer of 1949. The photo album contains 79 photographs and post cards. Also included are correspondence and invoices related to repairs on Dinkelspiel's vehicle; receipts, licenses and permits from the trip; and travel information publications and maps.

Arrangement: The materials in the collection are grouped by type: the album first, then vehicle repair documents, receipts and other travel documentation, and maps and other published materials.

Digitized copies: Eight of the photographs have been digitized and placed on the Alaska's Digital Archives website (search Dinkelspiel). For information about obtaining digital copies, please contact Archives and Special Collections.

Processing information: This collection was originally arranged and described by Jeffrey Sinnott in 1998. The album was copied, disbound, and the photographs placed in mylar sleeves and the original album pages discarded at the time. The collection guide was reformatted to current standards by Arlene Schmuland in 2012.
