Biographical note:
Keith W. Egan was born in Richmond, Utah, in 1916. He was the son of George E. and Emma Egan. During World War II, Egan was a soldier in the Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 75th Coast Artillery, and was stationed at Fort Richardson from November 1941 to July 1943. He married Josephine L. Jones in El Paso, Texas, in 1944. After the war, Egan was a resident of Royal Oak, Michigan, where he died in 1998.

Collection description:
The collection consists of Keith W. Egan's World War II era photograph album. The collection contains: a xerographic copy of the original 61 page album; 311 original black and white prints from the album; a newspaper clipping, program, and two napkins from his parent's 60th wedding anniversary, in 1962; and 9 copy negatives of selected photographs. There are 161 photographs which were taken during Egan's service at Fort Richardson in 1941 to 1943, and depict fellow soldiers and officers of his unit, some of their recreational activities and official duties, and scenes of downtown Anchorage, including the federal building, city hall, and service club. There are 89 photographs which were sent to Egan during the war by his fiancé, Josephine Jones of Huntington Woods, Michigan; his parents in Richmond, Utah; and his siblings, other relatives and friends in Utah, Idaho, Oregon and California. There are 32 photographs of Egan and his family and friends, which were taken in Michigan, in 1954 and 1955. There are also 29 commercial tourist prints and a photo post card, including images of Alaskan towns, Detroit, Michigan, and the Columbia River Highway in Oregon.

Arrangement: The collection was removed from the album and arranged into groupings: Alaska photographs, family and friends photographs, tourist images, non-photographic items, and copy negatives.

Alternative formats: The collection includes a xerographic copy of the album indicating the original order of the materials that were in the album and 9 copy negatives of selected photographs.
