Biographical note:
Charles Konigsberg received a PhD in Philosophy from Princeton University in 1966.  He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1968, where he taught political science at Alaska Methodist University (now Alaska Pacific University).  He later worked as a research analyst for the Arctic Environmental Information and Data Center (AEIDC).
Konigsberg was an advocate for environmental issues in Alaska, especially the D-2 clause of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, and founded the Alaska Center for the Environment in 1971.  In 1978, he also ran unsuccessfully as a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor of Alaska.

Collection description:
This collection contains papers dating from circa 1947-1988 that relate to Charles Konigsberg’s education, his classes and university involvement at Alaska Methodist University and other colleges, his 1978 campaign for lieutenant governor of Alaska, and his work for the Alaska Center for the Environment and the Arctic Envrionmental Information and Data Center (AEIDC), as well as related papers regarding environmental issues in Alaska.  There are also some records of the Anchorage Organizing Committee, the group that organized Anchorage’s bids for the 1992, 1994, and 1998 Winter Olympics.
