Collection summary: The papers of an Anchorage secondary high school teacher, Alaska Pacific University and University of Alaska Anchorage faculty member, and production company business owner.

Biographical note: Millie Wedel-Cowgill graduated from Alaska Methodist University (AMU) with her English bachelor’s degree in 1966.  In 1972 she completed her Masters in Teaching at the University of Alaska Anchorage.  From 1970-1976 she pursued postgraduate work in communications at Stanford, Foothill College (radio broadcasting), and the College of San Mateo (television production). While in Alaska, Millie Wedel-Cowgill had a diverse career.  She was a secondary school teacher for the Anchorage school district since 1967.  While a teacher she taught English, communications, composition, speech, mass media, and TV/radio, and served as a play production director and an advisor for the school yearbooks and literary magazines where she taught.    Millie Wedel-Cowgill also taught journalism and English at Alaska Pacific University (formerly AMU) and the University of Alaska Anchorage.  In addition to being an educator she was on the KAKM Board of Directors and ran her own private production company, Wedel Productions.  Wedel Productions produced materials for the news, public service announcement brochures, filmstrips, TV, and radio.  The production company also created branding and scripts. Millie Wedel-Cowgill was also a member of the Alaska Press Women, Alaska Press Club, Anchorage Concert Association, Stanford Alumni Association, and numerous other Anchorage community and national organizations.

Collection description:
The collection contains the personal and professional papers of Millie Wedel-Cowgill.  Her personal papers include correspondence and personal notes.  Professional papers include records produced while she was a teacher with Anchorage School District, president of the Stanford Alumni Association, and ran her own production company.
