Collection summary: Photographs of a pilot with the 344th and 11th Fighter Squadrons who served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.

Biographical note:
Burton J. Good was born in Pennsylvania in 1919. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. From June 1944 to November 1945, Good served with the 344th and 11th Fighter Squadrons on Shemya Island in the Aleutians. He was involved with the Shemya WWII Veterans Association and attended reuinons in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Good died in 2008 in Terrace Park, Ohio.

Collection description:
The collection consists of color photographic prints and negatives. The prints were made from slides, and a list of the original slides is included in the collection. Subjects of the photographs include aerial views of locations in the Aleutian Islands; airplanes flying bombing missions; group and individual shots of the men serving with Good in the Aleutians; the 28th College Training Detachment in Cleveland, Ohio; a party held by the 11th Fighter Squadron in 1945; and a reuinion of Shemya veterans.

Custodial history: The photographs were sent to Hank Frese by Burton J. Good and were donated to the Archives as part of the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers.

Acquisition note: The photographs were originally part of the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers, presented to the archives on behalf of the Henry K. Frese Sr. family with the assistance of fellow Shemya veteran Dan Lange, in 2006.

Processing information: The photographs were removed from the Henry K. “Hank” Frese papers and described by Gwen Sieja in 2015.

Location of originals: The location of the original slides is unknown.
