The main body of papers in the Fickett Collection was acquired in two separate transfers from the descendants of Fred W. Fickett in March, 1981 and March, 1982. Small additions were made in 1983 and 1984. By the Deed of Gift, the donors have transferred to the University of Alaska, Anchorage, the papers and all literary rights to them. There are no donor-imposed restrictions. The only conditions of the gift were that the donors receive a copy of the collection and of the inventory and that the work be accomplished within six months of the deposit. All of these conditions have been met.
Other Fickett papers and papers of his family were added since the publication of the guide in 1985. Mrs. F. W. Fickett, Jr., located a number of items including a few Henry Allen letters. She also donated several documents relating to Fickett and Lord family genealogy, photographs relating to Fred Fickett's later life, and Fickett family photographs.
In addition to the materials presented by the Fickett Family, a number of papers have been acquired from other repositories. These papers and institutions have been identified in the text. All copying fees for the additional papers were supplied by the Archivist & Manuscripts Curator. The institutions are the University of Maine at Orono, the Arizona Historical Society, and the National Archives. If any additional Fickett materials are acquired from other libraries, they may be reproduced and added to the end of this microfiche publication.
