Administrative history:
The Adult Literacy Laboratory, ALL Project, was an Anchorage Community College (ACC) program that trained paraprofessional teachers in the villages how to utilize materials and curriculum the ALL Project created and disseminated all over Alaska. It began in 1971 with Federal grant funding. In 1975, ACC began funding the program. By 1982, when the project came to end, the ALL Project had produced 150 different ABE/GED materials that ranged in topics from reading, math, phonics, Alaska Native skills, anthropology, and Land Claims. In addition to training and creating educational materials, the ALL Project supported the program, “GED by TV.” It first began in 1977, when it was televised to the first 17 villages that had satellite TV. People involved with “GED by TV” did their best to make sure that each village had a coordinator/mentor in each village to support students studying with “GED by TV.” In 1979, the program was able to reach 50 villages that had satellite TV.

Developed, published, and disseminated adult basic education curriculum materials to adult education programs in Alaska’s rural villages. Provided training to paraprofessional teachers in the village on how to implement ALL Project curriculum.
Series description:
The collection consists of records created by the Adult Literacy Laboratory Project from 1971-1982. Records include grant applications, educational materials produced by the ALL Project, and “GED by TV” records and materials. In addition to these records, the collection has an educational traveling trunk that circulated among the villages called, “It doesn’t have to Be,” kit. It helped educate villages about alcohol and drug issues and how to address them. The kit includes a handbook, directions for group discussion, filmstrip slideshow, informative pamphlets, puppets, and audio recording to use with the puppets. Brochures, pamphlets, and workshop materials are also available in box 3 of the collection.
