i thought this a good little read
http://csrc.nist.gov/fdcc/
this site contains two microsoft virtual PC virtual machines.
a XP and a Vista with the proposed recommended federal desktop
configurations.
the procurement language that the feds are to be using is avaiable as
are .inf files etc.
the nice things about this:
you can evaluate vista on XP or 2003 or other MS operating environments
without a purchase (for 120 days anyway)
the virtual machine are somewhat secure outa the virtual disk
you gain a lot of industry best practice in securing XP and Vista (i
contributed to the security templates)
you can use these virtual machines to test applications in the proposed
FDCC standard.
you can use the standard to apply pressure on vendors to secure their
applications.

After the meeting thought it might be nice to pass on a good little read
on raid 5 and why it fails with larger drives and how raid 6 is
effected.

If someone else has a good little read, I wouldn't mind seeing it.
