Thanks for the ideas. We got the Exchange Server back on the network. We we finally were able to log in as Local Admin and put the Exch Svr in a workgroup then readd to the Domain. The built-in Local Admin account didn't have Admin rights only User, once we found out the acct with Admin rights it was easy.
But the Exchange System Attendant service is hung on Startup so still no email. I've been kind of busy with my own network but plan to help my friend some more tonight. I'm hoping the email database or transaction logs were not corrupted by the sudden shutdown. Anyhow making progress!
Best Regards from Baghdad,

Go to Microsoft.com and go to Mark Russanovich's "WinInternals" site. The site is loaded with tools and information that may assist in what you are attempting to do.
He is also known to answer questions of your sort in short order. This is what I would do in a sticky situation, which I believe your friend is in (thank heaven I'm not there).

This is a problem on Server 2000 and Exchange 2000.
This is a small network with only one DC that has all
FISMO roles and one Exchange Server. I'm trying to
help a friend, so I'm not sure what exactly happened
but apparently Exchange Server locked up and so my
friend had to do a hard reboot. After rebooting he
can't log on to the Domain, he can only login as a
Local Admin on the Exchange Box. On the DC box in
ADUC, we can't delete the Exchange computer object. It
says there are other objects in the container and says
we don't have rights to delete the Exchange computer
object. We were hoping to delete the Exchange computer
object from ADUC and then readd it to the Domain.
Unfortunately, there isn't a recent backup of either
server.
My questions are:
1. Will I make things worse by deleting the Exchange
computer object from AD? Does that container contain
something important?
2 How can I delete the Exchange computer object
(right-clicking & delete didn't work.)
3. Would the NTDSUTIL tool be helpful in this
situation?
4. If I rename the Exchange Server computer will that
mess up Exchange if I rename it back to it's original
name?
Well that's all I can think of for now. Many thanks in
advance for your ideas and help!
Roger Clifford
