[NUGA] Symantec Endpoint Protection Issues

Just a note to send out a word of caution on Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). Symantec has replaced Norton Anitivirus Corporate Edition with SEP and has huge issues with it. In summary, servers stop accepting connections from workstations and efforts to uninstall, modify settings, etc. seem to cause more or worse problems. If you are thinking of SEP, you can read the horror stories here:

https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=endpoint_protection11&thread.id=588

The forums for SEP are here:

Here is a link to the fix download:
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/883f12779dbf8bdc8025738000468bba?OpenDocument

From the reading, the fix is not well documented as having total success, but the screaming after the fix posting has subsided some.

My personal experience is similar. I installed SEP to a new Dell PE 2900 w/ Win2K3 SBS OS and 9 clients. After a few days, clients are unable to access a shared database - Timeslips (Time accounting software many legal offices use). Then, again, a few days later, it reoccured. I had to reboot and then have disabled the Intrusion detection and Firewall (Network Threat Protection) services on the server in the administration module. It is a wait and see at this point. I have not installed the fix as it is too early to tell whether my new settings will keep things happy or not. I may in the near future. I will keep you all updated as anything changes.

I'd be interested to hear of any experience you have with SEP.
