Topic: WiMAX in Alaska

AT&T is bringing WiMAX service to Alaska and we are fortunate enough to
have their product director give us a presentation on the technical
aspects of the service and what AT&T is doing with the service up here.

For those like me who have trouble keeping their IEEE standards
straight, I offer the following: (From Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia)

WiMAX, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a
telecommunications <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications>
technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a
variety of ways, from point-to-point
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-point> links to full mobile
cellular type access. It is based on the IEEE 802.16
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.16> standard, which is also
called WirelessMAN <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WirelessMAN> . The name
"WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimax#WiMAX_Forum> , which was formed in
June 2001 to promote conformance and interoperability of the standard.
The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the
delivery of last mile <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_mile> wireless
broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL"

Presenter: Trent Long - Director of Product Enablement - IP Operations
- AT&T

It should be another terrific presentation so plan now to attend and
bring a guest!

As always, we will have pizza available for your eating pleasure along
with door prizes and free information!
