Biographical note:
Joseph Turnidge came to Alaska from Oregon in 1899 with his parents. He worked as a gold miner in the Atlin District near the Alaskan-Canadian border for seven months after which he returned to Oregon.

Collection description:
The collection consists of a letter written by Joseph Turnidge to his daughter, Pearl. In it he reminisces about his adventures as a miner in Alaska. He also describes his trip over the Chilkoot Pass and discusses his mining efforts.
