Biographical note:
Diana Tillion was born in Paradise, California, in 1928 and grew up in the Matanuska Valley in Alaska. She later married Clem Tillion, a fisherman and state legislator from Halibut Cove in Kachemak Bay. Diana Tillion began the study of art in 1950, and specialized in watercolors and the use of sepia “octopus ink.” Tillion taught art classes at Kenai Peninsula College in Homer, and received an honorary degree in humane letters from the University of Alaska. She was also an active member of the Alaska Poetry Society, the National League of American Penwomen, and the Alaska State Council on the Arts. Diana Tillion died in 2010.

Collection description:
The collection contains six audiocassettes of an oral history interview of artist Diana Tillion conducted by Viola Harrison at Halibut Cove in August 2005. The interview concerns Tillion’s early life, family, marriage, life as the wife of a fisherman and legislator, experiences with breast cancer, and children, as well as the community of Halibut Cove. Each audiocassette is 55 minutes long.
