This year &#8220;the INNOVATE grant is providing up to $200,000.00 to UAA faculty members and researchers in its&#8217; program.\u00a0 Awards will be announced in December 2012 with funding to begin January 2013.&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/research\/INNOVATE\/innovateawards.cfm\"> http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/research\/INNOVATE\/innovateawards.cfm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kenrick Mock and Bogdan Hoanca, as co-principal investigators, also received a <strong>$126,183 grant from the National Science Foundation<\/strong> to support the &#8220;acquisition of high-end eye trackers for research in information management, computer security, learning mathematics, and interdisciplinary research at UAA.&#8221; (see Professor Mock&#8217;s vita) Congratulations Professor Mock and Professor Hoanca!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information Resources<\/strong> talked about included:\u00a0 IEEE and ACM Proceedings that can be searched under <a href=\"www.consortiumlibrary.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.consortiumlibrary.org<\/a>, selecting Subjects (in QuickSearch box, and then selecting either Computer Science or Engineering to see the Computer Science and Engineering databases.<\/p>\n<p>I, Deb,\u00a0mentioned that Poland was adding coding to their elementary school curriculum based on an article\u00a0I read recently.\u00a0\u00a0Well folks, I was wrong!\u00a0 The country is <strong>Estonia!\u00a0 <\/strong>Thanks to George Eberhart, Editor of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">American Libraries Direct<\/span><\/strong> for finding this for me.\u00a0 Even librarians need help finding information!\u00a0 Read more about Estonia&#8217;s implementation of coding into their education curriculum below:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/owa.uaa.alaska.edu\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=QAW-4o5daUavaGS5qI8a9RxeSLLkms8IAljPCWWsy8mCxaS9wGJJKS_aKRazUpn4u48T1PYHcf0.&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fventurebeat.com%2f2012%2f09%2f04%2festonia-code-academy%2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guess who is winning the brains race?<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nJolie O\u2019Dell writes: \u201cIt\u2019s Estonia!
