Deb the Librarian interviewed Richard Kiefer-O’Donnell on Monday, April 8, 9-10am to learn about the Center for Human Development<\/a>\u00a0(CHD).\u00a0 The Center collaborates with\u00a0Alaskan organizations working to support people with disabilities in their life development needs from infant to\u00a0student to adult.\u00a0 Programs currently in process are TAPESTRY<\/a>, a mentorship program for students with disabilities at the University of Alaska Anchorage, Capacity Building in Autism Intervention<\/a>,\u00a0and LEND<\/a>, Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities, a program that supports cross-disciplinary collaborative educational opportunities for research and experiential learning in helping people with disabilities.\u00a0 The Center for Human Development has a list of Projects A to Z<\/a>\u00a0where you can see the range of ways that this unique department is making a difference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Student opportunities at the Center for Human Development range from scholarly to experiential.\u00a0 They include research assistantships, mentorships, opportunities to work as a trainer or in a support position for\u00a0programs.\u00a0 When asked about qualifications, Associate Director Kiefer-O’Donnell identified the importance of a heart-felt interest to help as a foundation for becoming involved.\u00a0 If you are considering the pursuit\u00a0 of an internship or volunteer opportunity with CHD, please note that you are making a commitment to a project.\u00a0 This may be a semester long project.<\/p>\n
