University of Alaska Anchorage.\u00a0 Interested in the prospect of financial assistance?\u00a0 Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/financialaid\/\">http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/financialaid\/<\/a>\u00a0to explore your options!\u00a0 Simply filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the scholarship application through UAOnline tosses your name in the hat for financial assistance.\u00a0 Tips to improve your odds of receiving financial aid follow:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 Get your application in early!\u00a0 If you get your application for federal assistance in early, you will also be eligible for the <a href=\"http:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/types\/grants-scholarships\/fseog\"><strong>Federal (SEOG)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.\u00a0 You have until June 30, 2014 to submit FAFSA\u00a0applications for 2013-2014, but if you submit your application for 2014-2015 financial aid this month, you may be well within the time frame of consideration for the SEOG.\u00a0 According to <a href=\"http:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/fafsa#when-fafsa\">http:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/fafsa#when-fafsa<\/a>,\u00a0FAFSA applications for the 2014-15 academic\u00a0year can be submitted between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015.\u00a0 For the Alaska Education Grant and Alaska Performance Scholarship for 2014-2015,\u00a0the\u00a0deadline is June 30, 2014.\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/fafsa.ed.gov\/deadlines.htm#\">https:\/\/fafsa.ed.gov\/deadlines.htm#<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>February 15, 2014 is the deadline for UAA scholarship application for the next academic year (2014-2015),\u00a0however, some scholarships accept applications all year round, so be sure to apply!\u00a0 Student Financial Assistance\u00a0is hosting a series of workshops to\u00a0answer questions, and aid in\u00a0developing quality applications.\u00a0 See\u00a0workshop dates at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/scholarships\/\">http:\/\/www.uaa.alaska.edu\/scholarships\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0Make sure that scholarship essays are\u00a0well-written,\u00a0 and grammatically correct!\u00a0 If there are grammatical errors (misspellings, incorrect punctuation) in your essay, they may count as points against you.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 Include your unique skills, and experiences in your essay.\u00a0 Also, when appropriate, reflect on how you will apply what you learn to give back to the community.\u00a0 You are a unique person with skills and experiences that may match up with a scholarship.\u00a0 Let the reviewers know about internships, talents, skills, and experiences that\u00a0demonstrate your strengths.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0 Have someone review your essay before you submit it.\u00a0 You can meet with someone from Student Financial Assistance, or you can make an appointment at the Writing Lab in the Learning Resources Center to have a tutor review your essay.\u00a0 This may help catch those grammatical errors, or identify questions that reviews may have.<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0 Check your email!\u00a0 After\u00a0you submit your\u00a0applications,\u00a0Student Financial\u00a0Assistance may send you notifications about scholarships, or have questions for you.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t check your UAA email account, have items forwarded to\u00a0the email account you do check, or list a preferred email address, so that you get those notifications!<\/p>\n<p>There are workshops available\u00a0and\u00a0scheduled support for students\u00a0who have questions, and need assistance completing these applications.\u00a0 The schedule for February&#8217;s FAFSA Frenzy workshops at the University Center can be found at <a
