Following\u00a0is information from the Anchorage Concert Chorus about this performance and other Defy Fear! events. \u00a0Interested in reading about this topic? \u00a0Check out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumlibrary.org\/blogs\/dmole\/files\/2016\/03\/Defiant-Requiem-Resource-List1.docx\">Defiant Requiem Resource List<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to software\u00a0challenges, Informania may not be replayed this Thursday at 5pm as expected. \u00a0I will work on posting these shows online as well. \u00a0Please listen to Informania&#8217;s live broadcasts on 88.1FM or kruaradio.org, Wednesday at 9am. \u00a0Listen, and be informed!<\/p>\n<p><b>The Live Performance<\/b><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #212121\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">The concert-drama<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\"><i>, Defiant Requiem: Verdi at\u00a0Terez\u00edn,<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">\u00a0tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the\u00a0Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during World War II who performed the famous Verdi Requiem Mass while experiencing the depths of human degradation.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">With only a smuggled score, they performed the famous oratorio sixteen times, including one performance before senior SS officials from Berlin and a Red Cross delegation.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">Conductor Rafael\u00a0Sch\u00e4chter\u00a0told the choir,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">We will sing to the Nazis what we cannot say to them.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #212121\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #212121\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">The concert was conceived and created by Foundation President, Maestro Murry Sidlin. The concert combines the magnificent music of Verdi with testimony from survivors of the original chorus and footage from a Nazi propaganda film on\u00a0Theresienstadt.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size: medium\">The performance also includes actors who speak the words of imprisoned conductor Rafael\u00a0Sch\u00e4chter\u00a0and other prisoners.
