{"id":1925,"date":"2024-04-30T16:54:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T00:54:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consortiumlibrary.org\/blogs\/reference\/?p=1925"},"modified":"2024-04-30T16:54:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T00:54:44","slug":"take-flight-with-amipas-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consortiumlibrary.org\/blogs\/reference\/2024\/04\/30\/take-flight-with-amipas-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Flight with AMIPA\u2019s Fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/amipa.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AMIPA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) is having a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/beartooththeatre.filmbot.com\/movies\/only-angels-have-wings-1939-a-fundraiser-for-amipa\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fundraising event<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> this Monday, May 6th, at 6 pm at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/beartooththeatre.net\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bear Tooth Theatre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 1230 W. 27th Avenue in Anchorage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The fundraiser features the 1939 classic \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion.com\/current\/posts\/4005-only-angels-have-wings-hawks-s-genius-takes-flight\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Only Angels Have Wings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d which\u00a0 has been reimaged from film to digital format using 4 K digital restoration. This adventure romance film features Cary Grant, Jean Arthur and Rita Hayworth with action packed and visually stunning aerial scenes. Nominated at the 1940 Academy Awards for \u201cBest Effects, Special Effects,\u201d it won a place on the National Film Preservation Board\u2019s National Film Registry in 2017. \u00a0 Come enjoy a fun flight through the jungles of South America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The film was chosen to highlight some of AMIPA\u2019s own collection of historical flight cinematography and impart the importance of preserving these rare films. Prior to the screening AMIPA will be exhibiting their own\u00a0 \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aviation-themed motion picture clips,\u201d carefully preserved from 8mm and 16mm film to 2K digital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AMIPA was created in 1986 and since then has worked hard to stop the loss of historical film. They joined the Consortium Library in 2004 as a preservation partner. AMIPA can be found on the third floor of the Consortium Library.
