About us

The Alaska’s Digital Archives site is a partnership between archives, museums, and libraries in Alaska to share some of their archival materials online. The project is managed by a group made up of representatives from the sustaining partners. The Alaska Library Network is the fiscal agent for the Alaska’s Digital Archives project. Arlene Schmuland is the statewide project coordinator.

The project is a collaborative effort initiated and annually sustained by three partners: the Alaska State Library in Juneau, the Consortium Library at the University of Alaska Anchorage/Alaska Pacific University, and the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  Other partners have joined as well on a short term project basis.

While initial activities focused on scanning, describing, and placing 5,000 photographic images into an online, searchable database, subsequent development of the project has included oral histories, maps, film clips, documents, and three dimensional objects.  The collection now includes over 100,000 individual items.
