Schmidt was charged $415.00 by the Law Offices of Cobb and Weissbrodt for their representation during the 1955 Hearings. $415.00 in 1954 would be equivalent to $3,663.00 in 2014.
The Fund for the Republic produced several studies regarding anticommunism and McCarthyism. Schmidt's lawyer, David Cobb, was approached by Bella Shwartz regarding a case study led by Adam Yarmolinsky for the Fund for the Republic. Cobb sent a letter asking Schmidt if she would consent to having her case examined by Shwartz for the study. Schmidt responded in the affirmative.
