![]() January - March 1997 Volume 18 Number 1 Letter from the Chair This has been a record setting winter for most of us. Coldest, wettest, longest, darkest, busiest...Our hospital has had the highest census for December and January since DRG's began in 1983. Our community has discovered the Internet, and physicians are being bombarded with questions from their patients about the latest "cures" on the net. I'm glad our medical staff relies on the library to help them but the workload has become a tidal wave. There is no such thing as a simple straight-forward search request anymore. I think the theme for our 1997 meeting this fall will have a special meaning for me, " Surviving and Thriving in an Age of Technology", especially if that includes cloning library staff members ;)... Spring has always been the time of year I make my resolutions and long range plans. (I'm always too exhausted from Christmas to think of any in January.) This year it's also time for our chapter to look at our long range plans, and decide what direction our professional organization should go in the next five years. You will recieve a member survey in the next few weeks, please take the time to think about what PNC/MLA means to your future and help us steer a course that benefits you and your professional development. This year we will be experimenting with electronically publishing our newsletter. We hope it will evolve into a snazzy web document that reflects the energy, talents, and special interests of our membership. As always, your input is what will make it happen!!! I hope to see many of you in the Emerald City as we host MLA in May. I'll add my arm-twisting to that of Linda Milgrom to encourage you to sign up for the hospitality desk and help make our guests' visit to the Pacific Northwest memorable.
