R. T. Harris and Family; 1889.

Image from the Archives Collection

Richard Tighe Harris Family Collection. Series 6.

This is a Partridge photograph. The photograph depicts Richard Tighe Harris and his family in front of their home in Juneau. Harris was an early prospector and one of the founders of Juneau, Alaska. The adults in the picture are Dick Harris; his wife's sister, Jenny; and his wife, Kitty. The two children are his sons, Richard Tighe Harris Jr. and William John Harris. The photograph presents a good view of their home on Court House Hill in early Juneau.

Reason for Selection: This is a fine view of Richard Harris and his family. The gold discovery by Dick Harris and Joe Juneau was one of several early booms in Alaska history. The Harris collection was the first major collection presented to the UAA archives. (DFW)
