The photographer is unknown. The location is in southcentral Alaska, probably near Valdez.

Reason for Selection: Rail transportation was very important to commerce and travel in Alaska despite the weather conditions. The cut, shown in the photograph, was made by an Alaska Railroad rotary plow. (KRH)
