Computer Use Policy

The Consortium Library’s public computers are intended for research and educational purposes.  Online catalogs, article databases, full-text resources, and scholarly websites are available to all library users on all public computers in the library.  Access to the open Internet* is available to UAA/APU students, faculty, and staff on all computers and to the general public on designated computers in the Reference Area.  The following guidelines apply to use of all public computers at the library.  

1. Priority is given to members of the UAA and APU communities
2. At peak times, use of the computers may be limited to 30 minutes per person per session
3. Monopolizing the computers or preventing others from using them is not allowed
4. Viewing pornography and other webpages found to be harassing, disruptive, or offensive to others is not allowed
5. The computers are intended for research purposes, not for playing games, watching sporting events, and shopping online.  Research use is always a priority.
6. Sleeping at the computers is not allowed 
7. Faculty who wish to use library computers for their classes should schedule a hands-on instruction session with a librarian in one of the library's instruction rooms 
8. Laptops and other personal computing devices are welcome in the library.  Users may connect personal equipment to the wireless network or to ports designated for such use. Users may not unplug any library equipment or cables for any reason.  Use of personal equipment must not pose a safety hazard for others (e.g., stretching power cords across walkways).

Use of library computers is subject to applicable UA and Consortium Library policies, including the Consortium Library’s Conduct Policy, Library Services to the General Public, and Instruction and Reference Services Policy.  Failure to comply with these policies may result in the loss of Consortium Library privileges and access to library computers, as well as university disciplinary action and/or legal action.  See also UA Board of Regents Information Resources Policy, UAA IT Services Acceptable Use Policy, and the library’s pages on Copyright, Database Restrictions, and Fair Use.

*The Internet, a global electronic network with highly diverse content, is one resource available through the Consortium Library.  The library does not monitor and has no control over information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.  Not all information posted on the Internet is accurate, current, or complete.  Comments on the contents of any webpage should be directed to the author(s) of the webpage in question.
